Pit Crew Tire Service
From the 2006, Volume 1 magazine
by Bonnie L. Quick |
Anyone
who has sat for hours, inhaling gasoline fumes
and drinking cold, strong coffee while waiting
to get their tires serviced, will appreciate the
beauty of having the service come to them, when
they are ready.
Craig Knarich started in the tire business in
1981 with Don Olson Firestone. He quickly saw
the need for a mobile tire service. He developed
the concept that became Pit Crew Tire Service in
1992. Knarich serves as a consultant with Hunter
Technology, a leader in the industry, doing
field studies that evaluate practical
application of products. He has written articles
for Tire Review and Tire Business trade
magazines.
Pit Crew Tire Service comes to your home, office
or even to the side of the road with the latest
technology to balance, rotate, inflate or
replace your tires to bring them back to
manufacturers’ specifications. |
| Hunter Technology, one of several of the
latest tools used by Knarich, diagnoses and
repairs ride disturbance concerns using the GSP
9700 Road simulator. Haweka Flange plates, the
industry standard in balancing technology, match
your lug pattern and are required by every new
car manufacturer. The Haweka system is an
expensive system not found at the local tire
store. |
“Proper inflation saves lives.
Nitrogen is already being used in IRL, NASCAR,
military aircraft and space shuttle tires." |
“Proper inflation
saves lives,” says Knarich, who uses nitrogen in
tires, free of charge with a tire purchase.
“Nitrogen is already being used in IRL, NASCAR,
military aircraft and space shuttle tires. There
are virtually no drawbacks to nitrogen. Its use
prevents oxidation and corrosion. Europeans have
used nitrogen for years and they charge about
$7.00 per tire. Nitrogen is so good that once
you try it, I guarantee you will want to
continue.”
“ I didn’t know businesses like this existed. I
used him this week and was extremely impressed,”
said Jim Dunn, regional partner for the Willis
Group, Florida Operations. “I am an extremely
busy individual who doesn’t have time to sit and
wait for tires to be put on my car. On Monday I
ordered tires online, which were sent directly
to Craig. On Wednesday he came to my office with
his nice, expensive equipment and within 30
minutes the tires were mounted, speed balanced
and filled with nitrogen that he doesn’t charge
for. The next day he called to check the
service. I’ve already referred him to five
people.”
Knarich is
looking for a ninety-percent equity investor in
the company but plans to stay on and help build
the company. "I love the business, and I'll stay
and run things," he says. "But I hate the
paperwork. And I will be very careful about who
I sell the controlling interest to. It needs to
be someone who can work with me, expand the
business, be customer-service oriented, and be
willing to wait for the return on his
investment." |

Dunn agrees with Knarich that there is a
huge potential for growth in the industry. "Pit
Crew Tire Service delivers the three most
important elements that make a successful
business, the best price, convenience, and high
quality of service."
